Sakura

Sakura in Japanese means cherry. In the early 1900 hundreds the United States were given 3000 cherry trees to celebrate the peace between the two countries. This tradition has been celebrated every since, the most recent was with Michelle Obama planting two trees. It is celebrated in Japan also. It gives me a warm feeling when I painted this tree. Two of my children were born in Japan so our family feels a close relationship with the country. Yes, I will be painting more cherry trees. I painted this cherry tree on rice paper. Maybe I will continue the tradition.
