Galeria De Sueños

About

Carol Lopez has been involved in the arts for most of her life working with a variety of media including oils, acrylics, charcoal and chalks/pastels. While she is mostly self-taught, she studied and trained in Japan, with a resulting Asian influence in her work.

Since discovering the most ancient painting medium (beeswax) and encaustic techniques almost twenty years ago, she has worked exclusively in this medium. Carol’s award-winning paintings are found in private collections all over the world, and are available in her gallery and home studio, Galeria de Suenos, in Los Ranchos, NM.

She entered the world of miniature art more than ten years ago with her work juried into competition, and winning awards in many local, national, and international shows. She continues to paint and exhibit in large formats, but finds that miniature art presents challenges that inspire her.

Carol believes that nature is surrealistic, and that encaustic beeswax painting has provided her the means to capture this surrealism. She also expanded her repertoire to explore the iconography of Spanish Colonial New Mexico, painting retablos on wood using the encaustic beeswax methods used by early artists of old world sacred art.

She has held membership in The Miniature Painters, Sculptors, & Gravers Society of Washington, D.C., the Miniature Art Society of Florida, the Black Range Artists, Inc. (NM), the Las Cruces Arts Association (NM), the Rio Grande Arts Association (NM), the New Mexico Art League, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, D.C.) She is past-President of the Las Cruces City of Artists Promotional Association, and was Director of the Las Cruces Barricade Beautification Project. One of her proudest achievements was being selected as the featured artist in the summer 2007 edition of Heart (Women Living with Passion) Magazine. She was also inducted into the National League of American Pen Women (2006) and Who’s Who of American Women in 2008. Her latest achievement is being selected as the Judge of the NM Masterworks Miniature Arts Bardean Show, 2015, Albuquerque, NM.
